A new podcast for creatives, hosted by designer & photographer Bryan Minear. The goal of the show is to have meaningful conversations with artists and creatives of all types, discussing art, business, social media, technology and everything in between.

EP10 // Transitioning into a new life, minimalism, and the future of cameras & tech
WITH DAVID IMEL

David Imel is a tech journalist and photographer currently living in New York City. He and I linked up during my last trip to NYC and we ended up having a conversation that SHOULD have been recorded for a podcast, but neither of us were really thinking about it. What I love about David is that he has both feet in the world of technology and phones, but he is also a photography nerd. So getting to pick his brain about the independent worlds of Google, Apple, and the traditional photography industry as I see it was a real treat. We talk tech, minimalism, computational photography and what that means to the market, as well as David making the recent transition from a nomadic lifestyle for the past 2 years to having a place to call home in NYC. This episode is packed with goodies and I hope you dig it!

EP09 // Collaboration, filmmaking, & transitioning to full time freelance
WITH COREY BOLAND

Corey Boland is a Director, Producer, Wedding Filmmaker, and Photographer in Detroit, MI. I’ve known Corey for about 3 years now and have seen firsthand his transition from having a full-time job as physical therapist and doing his creative stuff on the side, to being a full-time creative for the past 6 months. We chat as always about the importance of community, but Corey adds a unique spin to the conversation in that his work mostly involves collaborating with other creatives, something that I am not good at. Spoiler alert: he convinces me how beneficial that it can be. This might be the first episode that involves some Fujifilm talk, because well, they rule and I would be saying that even if I weren’t an ambassador. All in all, I think there are SO many takeaways from this episode, Corey is a super intelligent and well-spoken dude that even manages to make me sound like I know what I’m talking about. All in favorite of me attempting to poach him to become my permanent co-host, say “I”.

EP08 // Post processing, being a decent human, & full time landscape photography
WITH RYAN DYAR

Ryan Dyar is a full-time landscape photographer and instructor who in his own words is “a chubby man-child from the Seattle, Wa area who points cameras at stuff.” We chat about a lot of things, like what it really means to be a full time landscape photographer (hint: it’s not as glamorous as “influencers” make it seem), how Ryan got his start in the industry, as well as how he found his way to becoming  (in my words, not his) one of the more prolific post-processors of the digital era, and how awesome it is to be in community with other photographers who share your interests. All that and Ryan tells a great story about how he almost got stranded in the Alvord Desert, if you don’t like this episode, well, you probably just suck.

EP07 // Chasing dreams & making an impact through storytelling
WITH DAN NEWMAN

Dan Newman is a 3-time Emmy award winning director based in New York City. He is currently the Director of Digital Content for Matchroom Boxing. I have known Dan for a very long time and it was super nice to catch up with him. We talk through the specifics of what he does as a creator now (it’s insane) as well as some of the key points along the way that landed him in the amazing position that he’s in now. We talk through my current struggles and how I’m hoping to really break through next year, and also decided that we need to do another travel trip together soon. It’s a cool conversation, I hope you dig it!

EP06 // The ups & downs of travel photography
WITH KIRSTEN ALANA

Kirsten Alana is a photographer, world traveler, sometimes blogger, and influencer based in Los Angeles, California. I have followed her work for a few years now and was really excited to get to sit down and really pick her brain. She is a super down to earth creative that would much rather give away her popularity if she could continue on her career path without it, which says an awful lot about her. We talk about why it’s ok to just be exactly who you are, how frustrating it is to live in a society that values fame over talent, how to find the “soul” of a city you are visiting, why Bryan hates setting goals, and why Ansel Adams is “the shit”. I know, it’s a wide-arching conversation, but it was an amazing one to have. Hope you enjoy it!

EP05 // Tapping into an unlimited supply of creative energy
WITH DAVID SZWEDUIK

David Swediuk is a photographer, a musician, a writer, and a podcaster from Minnesota. Dave, or Usually Dave as he is known in internetland, is one of my very favorite creative thinkers. On his own podcast, Adventures in Creativity, Dave is constantly pushing creators to be better in all that they do. We cover a wide range of topics this episode including the limits of being a perfectionist, the art of podcasting, how to shoot cinematic stills, why Bryan is more in love with photography now than ever, and how in the hell creativity even works. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!

EP04 // Creating without compromise, & utilizing social media
WITH ILITCH PETERS

Ilitch Peters is a freelance designer and Photographer living in New York City. His creative pursuits are directly linked to his roots on instagram and the community that he built around him. This conversation goes a lot of interesting places, from his history as an artist, to quitting his day job to become a full time freelancer. Bryan discusses why he’s spending more time on twitter than instagram anymore, and how he feels we can maintain a healthy relationship with social media in 2019. The big takeaway here is that social media companies are busy pushing interaction, but we need more connection with each other above all.

EP03:
Pushing your limits and shooting eclipses
WITH REUBEN WU

Reuben Wu is a visual artist and music producer. He is also a co-founder of the band Ladytron. Reuben is known for pushing the limits of landscape photography, revealing unseen and hidden elements by incorporating artificial light sources via drone into his scenes. In this interview we touched on a lot of interesting and illuminating topics like where the idea for drone lighting came from, how being a musician initially helped to push his photo career forward, as well as details on his recent trip to Chile to shoot the solar eclipse. If there is anything to be learned from someone who is operating at such a high level, it’s that even though he puts in the time and effort, he is still coming from a place of true passion and exploration, and that is an area where we are all going to have crossover.

WITH KAT GREENBAUM

Kat Greenbaum is currently the Marketing Director for GNARBOX, which if you aren’t in the know, is a rugged backup device for pro content creators who prefer to travel without a laptop. If you haven’t seen what it’s all about, you need to take a look. Kat’s story hits a lot of different notes, from getting her start in the fashion industry to becoming an IN-GAME photographer for the most awesome video game publisher on the planet, there is is one thing that rings true throughout. She was always stepping outside of her comfort zone to try something new, and creating her own opportunities. I hope that you enjoy this one as much as I did!

Dan Rubin is many things – Designer, Photographer, Musician, the list goes on and on, but what he really brings to the table is a lifetime of expertise in all things creative. This chat goes a lot of places, from what it’s like being one of the first beta testers for a little ol’ app called instagram, to why public school in America sucks, and the ins and outs of a nomadic lifestyle. Dan drops gold nugget after gold nugget of advice to challenge creatives of all types. As far as first episodes go, this one is worth your time.
